instinct to isolate
When Adam & Eve sinned, they were suddenly aware that sin had made them vulnerable — and so they instinctively retreated from the intimacy they had once shared with God. And hid from Him.
(from Genesis 3:1-10)
Sin poisoned what was—originally—a pure & perfect relationship between God and humankind.
[ The result of sin upon the inflictor (as well as the inflicted) — is always shame. ]
The first response to sinning or being sinned upon is to pull back, to retreat from the intimacy once shared. And left untreated the wounded Heart aches in stark awareness of the ugly marks Sin left upon It.
And so the Heart hides, afraid to reveal its true state: wrecked & ravaged by sin’s offensive attack.
The wounded Heart needs a Healer.
Either the Human is enough or the Healer is enough.
Both cannot be true.
Oh but what Hope can be found in the Healer’s prescription:
a humble confession of sin
the acceptance of forgiveness
a return to the Joy of a Sinless Soul
Hope awaits the Humbled Heart.
